The Inn at Honey Run

This place is nestled in the middle of nowhere in amish country. It is an extremely nice place and not the place to stay if you don't have a lot of money.

This doen't mean I will not recommend it as a place to stay. The staff was extremely nice and knowledgeable of the local area. The restaurant was really nice, but it does require a reservation to eat there.

Check them out for a real great time in amish country. http://www.innathoneyrun.com/

Hershberger Quilt Shop

There have been so many people I have met that were looking for this quilt shop. This lady brings a lot of the local population an out let to sell there quilts. I also have been told the quilts are very good at a reasonable price.

The lady is amish, So I dont have a phone number for you, but I have the address

It is located at 6024 on 77 in bunker hill, ohio. It is also just a little north of Heini's cheese and right next to the school. There is a pretty good sized sign at the drive way, so it is impossible to miss this place.

Lehman's Hardware

If you have one day to spend down in amish country, this is one of the places you might want to try. It has a huge collection of goods and services that amish might use. It will take you the whole day to go through the whole thing, because of the huge size of the whole complex.

You will find them in kidron ohio. A word of note if you are not into auctions, then check to see if there is one there on that day. The town is small, but the acutions are huge. If you dont like the crowds stay away. If you dont mind the crowds, i would go for it.

This is an another post about great store.

Breitenbach Wine Cellars

For years we drove by this place just off 39, not too far from Dover and Sugarcreek ohio. It looks like an incredible purple castle. So one day we decided to drive down there and see this place.

If you like wine, or just visit a neat building, this is the place for you. There are many different types of wines that they make and sell there. They have an incredible selection of stuff you could use for your wine needs.

Check them out. http://www.breitenbachwine.com/

The Inn at Honey Run

I see the signs all the time on the way to work. I was wondering why these signs were pointing to this place in the middle of the country. Me and my wife decided to drive by there. It is off the beaton pass, so you are not going to be hit by any crowds. We also like the looks of the buildings, being in a peaceful setting. I also heard a lot of great comments of people that have stayed there.

If you need a place to stay, it should be worth looking at. http://innathoneyrun.com/

Landoll's Castle

This is a very unique place to visit and/or stay while you are in amish country. It is actually near loudonville on the south side, and in the woods.

I had the pleasure to see this place being put together and was mesmorized by all the stuff he was putting into this wonderful building.

The danger of staying at some place so increadible, is that you may not want to leave. Oh well, you are just going to have to plan another trip.

They also have a selection of baking and cooking bulk food items. You could also find a pretty good selection of meats and cheeses. The prices generally are pretty good, so a stop in the store would be worth your time.

Buckeye Deli

This place is out of the way, but it is really worth it for getting great pizza. It is located in Nashville, Ohio. One of our favorites is their specialty pizza, called the BLT pizza. You will not be disappointed in that pizza or anything else you buy there.

Lehmans

This place is actually in Kidron Ohio. It has a large variety of goods that you can buy. Almost anything you want to buy that is non electric, can be purchased in the store.

I will give you a quick warning. Because this place does cater to the tourist, sometimes the prices can be a little higher. I would suggest you know what you want to buy and pay, before going there. Then you will do all right in buying something.

add on: I just want to let you know why the prices are sometimes higher. Lehmans does strive to put the best merchandise in their store. This means they don't buy mass produced products, and of course this brings a higher price. If you want to support the smaller business that prodvide many jobs. This is the place to go.

Country Hills Market

You do not always have to go to the most popular places to find a great deal. Country Hills Market is on of those places to make a stop.

This is a bargin place to do a lot of shopping. The reason they are bargins is that the manufacturing is just off the products, they could not sell them in their normal places. The prices are very good, so I dont think most people would mind.

They also sell alot of locally grown fruits and vegatables. This does keep the price down.

Their address is that they are 3 miles soulth of fredericksburg on CR 201. 330-674-1552

Berlin Hickory Smokehouse

At the corner of CR 201 and Highway 39, another restaurant moves in. There have been a number of restaurant in this location. The slow economy put the last one out. I have eaten there, and I can tell you, if enough people find this place to eat, it will be around for a long time.

I had the brisket special in their own barbecue sauce. I was very pleased what I had, and had some to take home. I don't know what else to say about the food, except that it was all great.

If you like to sew at all, then comming to holmes county ohio, will keep you very happy. Just driving around to the different towns, can take you by a variety of material stores. Just look for the signs, and remember most of them are closed on sundays and thursdays.

Sundays

A tip for traveling to Amish country. If you are here on a sunday and looking for something to do. You will have to avaid places like berlin and walnut creek. These places are pretty much shut down on sunday.

Take heart, there are some things to do on sunday. You could go to Roscoe village in Coshocton. There are some shops to see and a lot of fishing near coshcoton. There are some shops open in Millersburg. Mostly antique shops. This will take you most of the day to get through.

Bakery

There are quite of few great bakeries in Holmes county, in Ohio. In time I will talk about all of them, just give me some time.

The first bakery, I want to talk about is the one on highway 39, not too far from Nashville, oh. It is the kountry Corner bakery, and it is about 100 yards from the bp station. They are amish bakers that present very good baked goods 6 day out of the week. The day off is sunday. They also have been known to be closed for weddings and funerals, but that is rare. If that does happen, they put some stuff and the bp station.

The baked goods are extremely yummy and your have a great selection to pick from. They have great cookies, pies, buns, bread, and these just so perfect sticky buns.

One word of advice, dont show up too early or too late. They bake every day, so the food might not be ready. If you show up too late there might not be nothing for you.

Rolling Ridge Farm

This will be quite an unique experience if you make it up to Berlin, Ohio. Rolling Ridge Ranch has quite a few exotic animals there. You can have the choice of driving through the ranch or taking a ridge on the back of a wagon. This is something that both the parents and children can enjoy. Have a great trip.

Around the corner shop

This new shop is in our old candle shop location. It is in the back of the old Mill building on highway 39, and accross the street from Java Joes. They opened up at the beginning of June 2009.

You will not find a lot of the everyday items found in Berlin, Oh. Dave, the owner, has made it a point to try to find some new items. He even has now put our candles into his store. I would highly recommend finding the store and taking time to look around.

I just have to tell you about the Dairyette in Winesburg oh. The food is incredible and a lots of different ice cream to be eaten. I guarentee you will not leave disappointed or hungry.

We needed to move

As we all now the economy is very tough. Tough enough that not as many candles are not being sold. We tried moving into a smaller location, but that is still not working. We need to cut out more overhead so we can make and sell our rich scented candles. We are going to make the candles at home and sell them in other areas. First place to look is at the flea market. You can also find our candles at "Around the Corner shop". We should hopefully find them in the next few days. And hopefully everyone will be doing better in the economy.

God Bless.

Eating

So many people come in and ask where the best amish cooking is. There are so many great places to eat. One of my most favorite is Boyd & Wurthman. Not to long ago the power went out, so we went out to get some breakfast. The sausage and biscuts were so good, I could taste all day. Yummy.

The resturant is a great sit down resturant, that has a home town feel. Nothing fancy, but the food is good, and the prices leave you feeling good.
